CHE Racing’s Tom Sargent is excited to continue his impressive start to the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge in Round 2 at Queensland Raceway this weekend.
In the opening round of the series at Sydney Motorsport Park, a rivalry was born as Sargent battled all weekend with Kiwi Ryan Wood as the two emerged as the drivers to catch in this year’s title. Wood won two races to Sargent’s one in Sydney as the pair battled in what appears to be the narrative for the season.
Sargent has come off a dominant run in recent times, winning the 2021 Australian Formula Ford Series and taking out this year’s Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour, partnering mentor and team owner Cameron Hill.
Queensland Raceway is on the agenda this weekend, with Sargent testing at ‘The Paperclip’ in preparation for what is set to be another tightly contested affair.
The make up of the team members preparing his Tegra Australia-backed Porsche will be different, though, with team owners Colin and Cameron Hill committing their time to CHE Racing’s national Formula Ford program at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Despite the clash of events, CHE Racing has Dejan Ninic to engineer Sargent’s car, with a crew of skilled mechanics to keep Sargent at the front.
This weekend’s action forms part of a bumper Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships round at Queensland Raceway, starting with two practice sessions ahead of qualifying and three races including a 45 minute enduro.
All the race action will be broadcast live on Stan Sport.

“It was great to do a test at Queensland Raceway recently. It’s the only track on the calendar that we hadn’t been to, so it was important for us to get out there,” said Sargent.
“The test gave us a chance to nail in on the set-up. It was a very productive test and it has put us in good shape.
“I’m feeling really good. Really confident. I’ve come a fair way in my driving and with the car set-up.
“The one big change is that it will be a bit different without Cameron and Colin there. They will be in Sydney for the Formula Ford team, so it’s a slightly different team that will run the car at Queensland, but the same crew that took us to the Bathurst 6 Hour win.
“I’m very confident that they will be able to do the job. I’ve worked with the guys before, and they are very professional.”
